Quick answerThis calculator applies each year's own FBR slabs to the salary you earned that year, then adds everything up. It's useful for checking old returns, seeing how much a job change really saved you, or comparing how the same salary was taxed from FY 2022-23 to FY 2026-27.

Why look at more than one year?

Pakistan's salary slabs have changed every single year recently. Some years brought relief, others brought heavier tax for the middle class. When you only look at one year, it's easy to miss the pattern. When you line them up, you can see exactly what each budget did to your pocket.

People use this tool for a few different reasons. Some are filing a late return for an earlier year and want a quick check on the tax figure. Some changed jobs two or three times and want to see the total tax they've paid over that stretch. Others just want to understand whether the system is getting kinder or harsher for someone at their income level.

The same salary, five different answers

Here's what a steady Rs 150,000 a month would have paid in each year. Nothing about the salary changes, only the law:

Tax yearMonthly salaryTax for the yearTax per month
FY 2022-23Rs 150,000Rs 90,000Rs 7,500
FY 2023-24Rs 150,000Rs 90,000Rs 7,500
FY 2024-25Rs 150,000Rs 120,000Rs 10,000
FY 2025-26Rs 150,000Rs 72,000Rs 6,000
FY 2026-27Rs 150,000Rs 72,000Rs 6,000

FY 2024-25 stands out. That budget raised rates sharply for middle incomes, and the 5% rate on the first slab above Rs 600,000 hit lower earners too. The next two budgets clawed some of that back.

How to use it

  1. Type your average monthly taxable salary for each tax year into the table above. If your salary changed during a year, use the average: add up the year's salary and divide by twelve.
  2. Leave a year blank or at zero if you weren't working then.
  3. The tax and take-home for each year update straight away, and the totals appear underneath.

Remember that a Pakistani tax year runs from 1 July to 30 June. FY 2024-25, for example, means July 2024 to June 2025, which FBR calls Tax Year 2025.

What's included and what isn't

For each year we apply that year's salaried slabs and, where it existed, the surcharge on income above Rs 10 million. That was 10% in FY 2024-25 and 9% in FY 2025-26. It was removed for salaried people from FY 2026-27.

The calculator doesn't include tax credits, Zakat, exempt allowances or tax on other income. Your actual tax for any year may be a little different. For filed years, your salary certificate and the computation in IRIS are the final word.

Using it after a job change

Say you moved from a Rs 120,000 job to a Rs 200,000 job over two years. Plug in both and you'll see your tax went up by more than your salary did in percentage terms, because the extra income landed in higher slabs. That's normal and fair under a progressive system. Your take-home still rose by a healthy amount.

If you switched jobs in the middle of a year, make sure your new employer knows what the old one paid and deducted. Otherwise each employer calculates tax as if they were your only source of salary, and you may end up owing extra when you file. Most employers ask for a certificate from your previous job for exactly this reason.

Checking a past return

When you file late, or revise an old return, a quick estimate helps you spot obvious mistakes. If IRIS shows a tax figure far away from what this calculator gives for that year's salary, something is probably off: a missing allowance, a wrong figure for tax deducted, or income entered in the wrong field. Go back and check before you submit.

Frequently asked questions

Which years does the calculator cover?

It covers FY 2022-23 through FY 2026-27, which are Tax Years 2023 to 2027. Each year uses the salaried slabs that applied that year.

Does it include the surcharge for high earners?

Yes. It adds the 10% surcharge for FY 2024-25 and 9% for FY 2025-26 when annual income exceeds Rs 10 million. There's no salaried surcharge for the other years shown.

My salary changed in the middle of a year. What do I enter?

Enter the average monthly salary for that year: add up all twelve months and divide by twelve. The total tax will be very close to the real figure.

Can I use this for business income?

No. It only uses the salaried slabs. For business or professional income, use the business tax calculator.

Rates: Income Tax Ordinance 2001 and its schedules as amended by the Finance Act 2026, plus FBR's withholding tax rate card for Tax Year 2027. Results are estimates. Check with FBR or a tax adviser before acting on them.
