How to use this table
Find the row closest to your monthly salary. If yours falls between two rows, say Rs 175,000, your tax will sit between the two figures. For an exact number, type it into the salary tax calculator.
The "effective rate" column is worth a look. It shows what share of your whole salary goes to tax. Even at Rs 1,000,000 a month, where the top rate is 35%, the effective rate is only 26.45%, because the first chunks of income are taxed at lower rates.
How this year compares with last year
For most people earning under about Rs 183,000 a month, nothing changed. At Rs 350,000 a month, tax falls from Rs 54,250 to Rs 47,500. At Rs 600,000 it drops from Rs 141,750 to Rs 124,500. The full comparison is on the tax slabs page.
